Schrödinger’s cat, wormholes, and similar topics are discussed far more than they deserve in actual research. Meanwhile, many exciting, beautiful, useful, and promising areas receive far less attention. Photonic crystals are one example.
The idea is beautiful in itself: photonic crystals allow us to create high-brightness single-photon sources. These are essential for single-photon light sources and building quantum-secure communication.
The same is true for quantum cryptography in general. We hear much more about quantum computers, but far less about quantum cryptography, even though it is necessary, feasible, and close to real-world application.
In this event, Dr. Alexander Kosarev will highlight promising research topics, show the beauty of the physics behind them, and explain in simple terms how they work and why they matter.
