Aboriginal community calls protest against the new LNP government's first sitting dateProtest the LNP govs first Parliament sitting - We Demand Truth, Treaties and Justice
26th November 2024 - 9am
Queens Gardens, 144 George St, Brisbane City - Marching to rally at Parliament house
In light of the new LNP Government discarding the truth telling inquiry and and their policy to further criminalise children in Queensland, Aboriginal activists are calling a protest on the first sitting day of the new parliament on the 26th of November 2024, at 9am, starting at Queens Gardens in Brisbane.
The LNP has been elected on the back of a campaign of lies and attacks on first nations people.
They lied that there was a youth crime crisis, promising "Adult Time for Adult Crime" and to crack down on the "generation of untouchables". We see through this racist dog whistle and know that policies that criminalise youth will have a disproportionate impact on First Nations people. We know that we are seeing an almost record low in youth crime rates, and that the solution to youth crime is community and care, not more incarceration, criminalisation and police.
They lied that the truth telling inquiry was “divisive” and told the communities engaging in the process not to move forward, through media statements! We know that real division is in quality of life, in health outcomes, life expectancy, wealth, education, and freedom. If the truth is divisive, it's because it exposes how First Nations people have been oppressed and exploited and that this must be rectified!
These attacks are coming at the very beginning of the LNP government. We have to stand up now and demand better. We have to indicate to this government that we’ll fight back every time they try to deteriorate our rights and further intrench our oppression.
