We’re excited to welcome Professor Rick Bateman for an upcoming Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu seminar!Professor Rick Bateman is the owner and founder of Megalodon Jiu-Jitsu and OBX Martial Arts, home of the #1 kids martial arts program on the Outer Banks.
A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Kristian Woodmansee, Professor Rick brings a powerful mix of wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu, coaching experience, and real-world leadership to the mats. He has 25 years of wrestling experience, over 100 career wrestling wins, and 15 years of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu experience.
His competition background includes being a multi-time IBJJF medalist, multi-time NAGA Champion, multi-time New Breed Champion, multi-time Fuji Champion and absolute winner, and a Fight 2 Win Super Fight winner. In 2021, he was ranked as a Top 5 Master 1 Lightweight Brown Belt by IBJJF, and he remains an active competitor in major tournaments today.
Professor Rick has also built one of the top martial arts programs in the Outer Banks, winning Best of the Beach for 8 years in a row, along with recognition for best personal trainer and best gym. His academy has produced the OBX’s first-ever team of youth world champions and team title winners.
Beyond the mats, Professor Rick is a Purple Heart Veteran who served in the United States Army during a tour in Afghanistan. He is also a proud father of four and knows how to bring energy, structure, and fun to every class.
