About this Event
Join Scotland Hikes & Tours to explore the beautiful Pentland Hills! On this guided hike, you'll get to connect with nature, have a great workout, and discover the incredible landscapes just outside Edinburgh. You’ll learn a bit about the plants, animals, geography, history, and the natural environment of the area.
The Pentlands are the hills in the south of Edinburgh which are visible from much of the city. From there you can get views of the whole of Edinburgh and the Lothian region, the Borders to the south, Fife to the north, and on a clear day you can see the Ochil Hills or even the south Highlands!
We’ll meet at the Swanston car park around 3pm. Our hike will take us up to the summit of Allermuir Hill at 493 metres (1617 ft). If time allows we might also take in 1-2 of the neighbouring peaks. We will cover a distance of 7-8 km (4.5-5 miles) with an elevation gain of 300-350 metres (985-1150 ft) depending on our pace and our route. The hike will last about 3 to 3.5 hours. We will go at the pace that suits you and have breaks as needed to catch your breath, take photos, and to eat/drink.
This outing is suitable for experienced hikers or those who have a good level of fitness. Suitable footwear is essential, along with warm layers and waterproofs as the weather can change quickly and there can be strong winds on top of the hills.
PRICE: £150 per group (1-2 people)
The full fee is payable on registration and refundable up to 7 days before the event. Payment can be made by credit card on Eventbrite or you can pay via bank transfer to avoid the service charge.

ABOUT YOUR GUIDE
Fiona McLean is the owner and founder of Scotland Hikes & Tours. She has over 30 years hiking experience in more than 20 countries on 6 continents, including doing several long-distance trails. Many of her hiking trips and travels have been solo. She is a qualified Mountain Leader in the UK and a four-seaso Interpretive Hiking Guide in Canada. She is fully insured and has the necessary wilderness and outdoor first aid certifications.
