Printmaking for Painters

Instructor: Todd Stong
This class is the perfect intro to printmaking for non-printmakers. Expand your mark-making tools and incorporate printmaking into your painting practice. Participants will experiment with trace monotypes, paper stencils, and oil and water-based inks.
Instructor Bio: Todd got his B.A. in Creative Writing and Visual Arts, with a focus in painting, from Brown University while taking printmaking and illustration coursework at the Rhode Island School of Design. He has since continued his education with a screen printing apprenticeship at the Fabric Workshop Museum and a monoprint workshop at Penland School of Crafts, and participated in a number of other artist residencies. This September, he enters his fourth year teaching art, art history, geometry, and US government at the Kimberton Waldorf School, where he also does academic support and advises the yearbook club. Todd loves monoprinting as a way of quickly producing images without the preciousness and worry that comes from making paintings. He works both reductively and additively, using brushes, q-tips, brayers, homemade stencils, and many other tools to create bold, colorful prints that showcase the lusciousness of brushwork and printing ink.
Note: This class is in person and will be following all COVID guidelines. There will be a maximum of 5 people in the studio including the instructor. Masks must be worn the entire time inside the building.
Class Cost & Material Fee: $90
