About this Event
As Liberians at home and abroad prepare to celebrate 179 years of independence, Liberian-born filmmaker Gerald K. Barclay and others will discuss the events of April 12, 1980. On that fateful morning, Liberian President William R. Tolbert and 13 cabinet members lost their lives in a coup that changed the trajectory of Mama Liberia.
Barclay's film, "The Assassination of President William R. Tolbert" explores the circumstances of President Tolbert's assassination, the most important of which is his deviation from his predecessors in domestic and foreign affairs. Be prepared to watch and discuss.
