As part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and the 150th anniversary of Colorado's statehood, History Colorado has embarked on an ambitious project to change the way we look at community preservation: Colorado Heritage for All. The goal of this project is to identify 150 currently unrecognized spaces and places that tell the stories of communities of color, women, and LGBTQ+ Coloradans, and to add all of these sites to the state Register of Historic Places by the end of 2026.Historic Larimer County is hosting Damion Pechota on February 28th in a building that was already on the State Register of Historic Places, but its nomination was amended last year to include the ways in which the buildings' history includes stories of an under-represented people group. Pechota will explain the program and how Larimer County residents can get involved.
This event is free, open to the public, and doesn't require an RSVP.
Please check the HLC Facebook page or website for alerts if there is bad weather.
