About this Event
Ready to refine your coil-building skills and create a stunning Moon Jar? This 4-hour workshop is designed for intermediate to advanced ceramic artists who want to build lighter, more elegant, and well-formed coil pieces. Whether you’ve struggled with shaping, weight, or structure, this session will give you the techniques to improve your results and confidence.
What You'll Learn
You’ll work hands-on using coil-building methods while learning techniques that help you control form, refine shape, and create stronger, more balanced pieces. You’ll explore things like:
- Using coils to create the classic Korean Moon Jar form
- Techniques for closing forms smoothly without unwanted spreading
- Methods for building thinner, lighter, and more refined coil pieces
- Practical tips to troubleshoot common coil-building challenges
What To Expect:
- Live demonstrations of core wheel-throwing techniques
- Guided practice so you can apply what you’ve learned right away.
- Small groups, so participants get individual feedback and personalized guidance to help them progress to the next stage of their pottery practice.
What to Bring:
- Clothes you don’t mind getting messy (pottery can splash a little!)
- Short nails are best for working with clay
- A drink if you’d like (21+ BYOB friendly)
- Your sense of humor and patience—wheel throwing takes practice!
Important Notes:
- For ages 18 and up
- Each participant will create a piece to fire and be glazed
- Finished pieces will be ready for pickup in about 15 business days. We’ll store your work safely for up to two weeks after completion.
- No refunds for cancellations made less than 24 hours before class (we prep materials and plan with you in mind!).
