About this Event
In this free creative workshop, explore the portrait miniatures at Kenwood House with an exclusive curator-led tour and object handling.
If you are aged 18-25 and would like to:
- Explore art and heritage
- Meet a curator of a major cultural institution
- Network with likeminded peers
- Handle original artefacts and sketch from them
- Discover upcoming creative workshops
...then this event is for you!!
Curator Louise will give a talk in the miniatures room about miniatures generally and some highlights from the Draper Gift, then we will move to the Lecture Theatre for an object handling session. This will be an opportunity to handle miniatures and to think about them in the round so we can think about form and function and how this translates into meaning and sentiment. We will then have an informal chat about the objects and sketch from them.
Project context:
This workshop is part of the series 'MINIATURE NARRATIVES: CRAFTING IDENTITY THROUGH PORTRAIT MINIATURES'. Assemblage Collective is thrilled to have been selected for Reverberate, an English Heritage initiative that supports grassroots, youth-focused heritage projects. For more information, see Shout Out Loud, English Heritage's national youth engagement programme: http://shoutoutloud.org.uk/
Inspired by Kenwood House and the Draper Gift of portrait miniatures, our latest series of creative workshops will delve into the rich history of portraiture from the 18th century to today. We will explore themes of representation and identity, creating miniature self-portraits in various mediums. The project events will take place between July - September 2024.
If you are aged 18-25 and passionate about art, identity, and history why not get involved? To stay in the loop sign up to our mailing list or follow us on Instagram.
