About this Event

Welcome to Pop Girlies Ride ‘n’ Rest Babe!

Join top babes Ash and Lucy for an afternoon of exploring joyful movement, celebrating our fav pop girlies and getting to connect away from the new year new me BS!

This event will start with a pop girlies Spin class led by Ash (they/she), followed by a break to have a cuppa & natter and end with restful yoga to some banging ballads led by Lucy B (she/her).

Both Ash & Lucy create classes that center inclusivity, intuitive movement, and having a bloody good time. They are so excited to collaborate and bring you a lush afternoon of joyful movement.

We’ll start the workshop with a pop girlie spin class led by Ash (they/she). Ride to all your favourite pop girlies whilst moving your body with JOY! Yes, the holy trinity (Charli, Chappell, Sabrina) will be represented! The ride will be approx 45 minutes in length but we'll be in the spin room for around an hour including arrival, set up and cool down stretches. If you need support setting up your bike, we’ll be on hand to help with this, and we’ll make sure everyone is comfy before we start riding.

The vibe is anti-diet culture, jiggly dance party on a bike. The focus will be on how we feel and reconnecting with the joy of movement. This is an all ability ride, whether it's your first ride or your 1000th you are so welcome!

After our spin class there will be a gorgeous 60 minute break. Plenty of time to grab a drink from the East of Eden cafe if you’d like. You are also more than welcome to bring your own drinks/snacks! We'll also bring some biscuits to share!! We’ll have space in the cafe for a chit chat/social moment if that sounds fun for you, but if you’d prefer to do your own thing that’s cool too.

Having a break will also allow time for you to shower at the venue, if you’d like to do so before our rest practice.

Finally we will explore restful yoga, led by Lucy b (she/her). We will take a 60 minute practice, focused on slowing down and trying out different ways to rest, featuring some of our fave pop girl ballads.

This will include some gentle stretching and wiggling, some yin postures (longer supported stretches) and restorative yoga postures (comfy shapes with loads of support) whilst being serenaded by our favourite girlies.

This practice is suitable for complete beginners and will explore standing, seated and lying down shapes.

Sliding scale pricing

We are offering this workshop using a sliding scale for pricing in the hope that it is as financially accessible as possible. Tickets are available at £30, £35 and £40. We invite you to book whichever price ticket feels best for you.

To assist you when engaging with the sliding scale, please note that the actual cost of the workshop is £35 and tickets listed below that price are limited. There are also a small number of tickets which are priced higher than the actual cost of the workshop. These are solidarity tickets which allow those with the means to do so to 'pay it forward' and subsidise the lower cost tickets.

Please note we are not able to offer refunds however, if you can no longer make it we'd be super grateful if you could please let us know, to help us manage numbers for the event.

FAQs

What should I wear for spin?

It is best to avoid loose fitting or baggy trousers as these could get caught in the bike. We suggest wearing something you’re comfortable sweating in and that will keep you cool whilst riding.

What shoes do I need for spin?

Comfortable and supportive trainers are perfect. Cleats (cycling shoes) are NOT provided, but, if you have your own, the bikes are compatible with SPD cleats. If you do have your own cleats, we’d recommend bringing trainers too, just in case there are any issues getting clipped in.

Do I need to bring a sweat towel?

No! A sweat towel will be provided on your bike.

Will I be able to shower after the spin class?

There will be time for you to shower during the 60 minute break, after spin and before rest, if you’d like to.

We’ll have the use of 4 showers during this time. 2 of the showers are in individual gender neutral bathrooms on the ground floor next to the cafe and these are the most size accessible showers. The other 2 showers are upstairs in a communal, gender neutral changing area (although the showers themselves are in individual lockable rooms). The upstairs showers are smaller and so we would kindly ask folks in smaller bodies to use these showers.

There is shampoo, conditioner and body wash available to use in the showers. You will need to bring your own towel if you'd like to shower.

What are the bike specifications?

The bikes are the ‘SC2’ model, from the brand Stages. You can find all the bike specifications, including the width, height and the manufacturer’s recommended max user weight (350lbs (158kg) by scrolling to the bottom of this page.

What happens in a spin class?

The simple answer is that we ride stationary bikes in a dark room, to some music. The music is pretty loud and so, you’re welcome to bring earplugs if you’d like to.

We use the beat as our guide, but we aren’t prescriptive about it. That means, if a beat doesn’t feel good for your body, we encourage you to find a different one (or you can forget the beat completely)!

We will use ‘resistance’ on our bikes which is increased and decreased by a dial and a lever, both found in between our legs on our bike. Turning the dial to the left ‘lightens’ the resistance (removes it) and turning it to the right makes the resistance ‘heavier’ (adds it on). The resistance recreates the feeling of riding up and down hills/on flat roads, allowing us to move safely, and with support at different speeds throughout the ride. The resistance is what keeps us connected to the bike, and we’ll guide you during the class about when you might want to try adding or removing resistance to help you match the beat of the song in your body.

We will offer choreography - sequenced movements - performed (mostly!) from a standing position on the bike. Everything we do is optional and we will always encourage you to listen to your body and take it at your own pace.

What do I need to wear for Yoga

Any clothes you feel comfy to move in. As it is a rest practice we recommended bringing a warm layer.

What happens in a Yoga Class

We will explore different stretches and shapes on a yoga mat, in this class these movements will be focused on rest. These shapes will be standing, seated and lying down.

All the kit will be set up for you ready to go but you are welcome to bring personal mats and props if that is your preference. -There will be matts, bolster, blocks and blankets provdied to help make practising as comfortable as possible

In this restful practice we will be moving towards slowing down and stillness, however stillness is never an expectation. You are welcome to bring stim toys into practice and move around as much as you please.

You do not need to be quiet in a yoga class, questions, grumbles, ticks and farts are welcome.

There will be amplified music at a low level, this class will include lyrics as we will be playing pop ballads.
