Welcome to a special Plymouth Poetry Festival edition of POETRY@thePPL!
Located in the characterful and intimate space that is Plymouth Proprietary Library (inside half of a converted church hall), these events invite poets and fans of poetry alike to join us for an evening of reading, performing, and basking in the glow of the library's mountain of books.
The evening will open its doors at 7PM for a 7:30 start, and will consist of two 25-minute open mic slots, followed by two performances from our guest poets of the evening. These will be interceded by a 10 minute break.
Entry to this event will be on a 'pay what you can' basis, with a standard price of £15, and lower priced tickets available for those in need. Tickets are available online via Eventbrite.
This event will feature the wonderful ELLA FREARS & KATE KREKE!
ELLA FREARS is a poet and artist based in London. Her collection Shine, Darling (2020) was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection, and the T. S. Eliot Prize for Poetry. She has held residencies and fellowships for the Tate Gallery, the National Trust, Royal Holloway University physics department, John Hansard Gallery, the Dartington Trust, 16 motorway service stations, the number 17 bus in Southampton, and Exeter University’s environmental history department. She is currently the RLF Fellow at the Courtauld Institute of Art. She hosts Tears for Frears on Soho Radio.
KATE KREKE is from Chicago but moved to the UK to go to the University of East Anglia to pursue a Masters Degree in Creative Writing. She has now forsaken the South Side for the South Hams. Kate uses poetry to work out common themes that circulate in her psyche, frequently including birds, railroads and space. She also often writes about appatent contradictions in her own life, such as those between Chicago and South Devon, and between her mother and motherhood.
