About this Event

POETRY SUMMER SCHOOL

The Writers’ Workshop, Orchard Square Sheffield

Get schooled in reading and writing poems this summer! This short course of six sessions with me, Suzannah Evans, will cover the essentials of poetry, from why we write it to how it works. Each session will include writing time and time for feedback. These sessions are suitable for beginner and intermediate poets. I recommend you come with an open mind and a willingness to play with words!

Thursday 18th July 4pm-6pm Who is Speaking?

In this workshop we will consider the idea of voice in poetry; the narrative, the lyric and the speaker. Who is your speaker, and who are they speaking to? Be prepared to adopt many voices, human and otherwise!

Booking Information

  • Sessions are bookable individually, or you can book all six in a lower-cost bundle before the first class.
  • There is one free bursary place available per session. If you would like to take up a bursary place, please contact me directly: [email protected].
  • We are unable to offer refunds on any portion of a six-session booking, so please ensure you can attend all sessions.
  • We can only offer a refund on a single session if we can resell your ticket.

Please note: There is no wheelchair or step-free access to the Workshop. If you're unable to access the Workshop, there is an Access Option ticket for online participation in the session.

About the Tutor

Suzannah Evans lives in Sheffield and has published two poetry books, Near Future and Space Baby with Nine Arches Press. In 2019 she was a Gladstone’s Library Writer in Residence, and in 2021 received a Northern Writers’ Award. Her work has been described as ‘doom-pop poetry with an apocalyptic edge.’

Suzannah's work combines climate anxiety and eco-poetry with dark humour and irreverence, and has been described as 'doom-pop poetry with an apocalyptic edge.' She has published two books with Nine Arches Press, the most recent of which is 'Space Baby', and her pamphlet Green is forthcoming with Little Betty.
