Cyanotype Printmaking

Cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic processes, using sunlight to produce beautiful and delicate blue images. Although a simple process it allows users to think in more, conceptual ways that allow more complex work to develop

In this workshop participants will learn how to coat materials for exposure, how the process works, and a variety of different processes within the main process, including the toning of images.

The approach is experimental and offers participants the chance to make their own images and see the further potential of the process

If the weather gods aren't on our side, we have a UV exposure unit as a backup to help to expose our images.

All materials and equipment will be provided.

Participants can bring their own natural materials, leaves feathers etc, the flatter the better.

Other items that work well in this process are ready made acetate prints and other man made materials, lace, thin material etc.

You may wish to bring a water bottle. Teas and coffees are provided

Andrew Dolan has been a photographer and Further education lecturer in photography for over thirty years. Andrew is one of our regular volunteers and workshop leaders.

Carousel Print Studio is a not for profit charity based on the ground floor of Exchange Place Studios in Castlegate. Carousel runs educational workshops in printmaking and opportunities for creatives in Sheffield, in a bright, warm, accessible and well equipped printmaking studio.

Carousel's studio is located on the ground floor just to the left of reception. The doors are widened for ease of access and there is an accessible toilet. If you have any questions regarding access needs please do contact us at [email protected]
