We’re so excited to welcome two of our favourite poets to Lala Books, Michael Mullen and Peter Scalpello, for our monthly poetry evening.
Michael Mullen is a queer poet, writer and spoken-word artist from Glasgow. Michael was the Scottish National Slam Championship runner-up 2022, a co-winner of the Edwin Morgan Poetry Award 2023-24 and winner of The List’s Best Rising Scottish Author. Their first collection Goonie was released with Little, Brown in June 2025 and was shortlisted for the Forward Jerwood Prize for Best First Collection.
Peter Scalpello is a writer and psychotherapist from Glasgow, based in London. Their work has appeared in Five Dials, Granta, The London Magazine and the New York Times, among others. Peter’s debut, Limbic, was Highly Commended by the Forward Prize for Best First Collection, shortlisted for the Books Are My Bag Readers Award for Poetry, and adapted into a stage production at the University of Edinburgh. Their second book, Mirrorstage, will be released in March on Cipher Press.
is a writers’ collective that meets weekly at SET Social in Peckham. They are for anyone that’s interested in and enjoys words.
Tickets are £12 and fully redeemable against any poetry book on the evening.
Open mic performers have five minutes (on a first come, first served basis) and receive complimentary drinks.
