We’re so excited to welcome Desree and Ashley Hickson-Lovence to Lala Books for our monthly poetry evening.
Desree is an award-winning writer, spoken word artist, educator and producer based in London and Slough. An alumna of Born: Free Writers Collective, Jerwood Arts and the Obsidian Foundation, Desree was Poet in Residence at Glastonbury Festival 2022. Her debut poetry collection, (2025, Bad Betty Press) was shortlisted for the prestigious Forward Poetry Prize Best First Collection Award.
Ashley Hickson-Lovence is a novelist, poet, literary critic and lecturer of creative writing. He has published four books including , , and . Your Show was longlisted for the Gordon Burn Prize and shortlisted for the East Anglian Book Awards. His fourth and most recent book is , a novel in verse, and was released on Faber in April. He is also the author of the 2025 poetry collection on Bad Betty Press.
is a writers’ collective that meets weekly at SET Social in Peckham. They are for anyone that’s interested in and enjoys words.
Tickets are £12 and fully redeemable against any poetry book on the evening.
Open mic performers have five minutes (on a first come, first served basis) and receive complimentary drinks.
