About this Event
This Heritage Festival, join us for an illuminating presentation on the history of one of Sutherland Shire's hidden gems.
Changes to work, transport and fashion in the 19th century led to the development of holidays as we know them today. The Riverside Pleasure Grounds along the Georges River, which sprang up in the 1850s and was popular until the 1930s, are one aspect of this enthusiasm for excursions that can give insight into the evolution of modern Australia.
Presenters from the Maritime Museum will uncover the secrets of how the Georges River became a destination in its own right, to which people could escape from the everyday grind.
