Meet Nepal’s circular economy pioneers: four years of research and innovation turning Himalayan plastic waste into opportunities.
About this Event

Meet Nepal’s circular economy pioneers, and discover how 4 years of research and innovation turned Himalayan plastic waste into opportunities for the locals, by the locals.

Find out how the Plastic to Ghar (P2G) initiative catalysed a circular economy transition in Nepal – the roof of the world! Recycling plastic in the Himalayas is no easy feat, yet P2G collaborated with over 70 local innovators, mountain communities, passionate changemakers and local governments to plant the seeds of plastic circularity. Together, they transformed waste into durable housing products and sustainable livelihoods.

Led by the Centre for Industrial Sustainability, University of Cambridge, in collaboration with Impact Hub Kathmandu and FabLab Nepal, this pioneering journey spanned MAKEathons, prototyping, incubation, pilots and commercialisation. The results?

• Three thriving start-ups: Paramendo, Kleanit Upcyclers and Green Decision Labs.

• Five plastic hubs across rural and urban Nepal.

• Lasting social and environmental impact: cleaner villages, new jobs, technical and business capacity building, improved living conditions, and reduced open burning and dumping of plastic waste.

Join us for the grand finale of this inspiring journey. Celebrate the launch of the P2G Plastic Innovation Protocol, enjoy a documentary screening, engage in a panel discussion with Nepali start-ups and Professor Steve Evans, explore a showcase of Himalayan upcycled products and take part in a one-off auction of furniture crafted with hope from the Himalayas.

Spaces are limited, so book now to witness this unique sustainability development story.
