Join us as we continue our “OUT OF THE BOX” forum series as we explore the innovative and alternative places for seniors to live.
This time we engage with Sharing with Friends who are creating co-housing communities for vulnerable older women.
THE POWER OF FIVE
Construction is underway on Sharing with Friend First co-housing community for five older women at Darra in the southern suburbs of Brisbsbane. The vision extends beyond housing construction; this will be an intentional community where the residents can live with dignity, autonomy and mutal support.
Sharing with Friends' unique approach to co-housing and lifetime leases can help address the deplorable number of older women at risk of homelessness.

Susan Davies
BA Dip Journ, Post Grad Dip CPNS
Susan Davies is a passionate advocate for women and girls, a former journalist, and an experienced communications professional. She has chaired the Sharing with Friends Foundation since its inception and has been a strong voice on the housing insecurity facing vulnerable older women in Australia, which she regards as a human rights issue.
Since 2022, Susan has served on the Queensland Department of Housing’s advisory group focused on older women, contributing to work aimed at improving housing outcomes and support services. She also previously served as Queensland director of the forerunner to today’s Property Council of Australia, bringing deep experience in policy, advocacy, and sector leadership.
Eloise Atkinson
B Des St, B Arch, LFRAIA, GAICD
Eloise Atkinson is a Brisbane-based architect with over 30 years of experience, primarily focused on education and housing. She has a strong track record in designing social and affordable housing and is a leading advocate for high-quality, well-designed housing. Throughout her career, she has combined action and advocacy to improve outcomes in housing, dedicating significant time to board roles, research, policy development, and leadership within the architecture profession.
Eloise is the immediate past chair of Brisbane Housing Company (BHC) and served on the board for 18 years. She has been a key advisor to SWF foundation since its inception and has been a management committee member since 2026.
Elosie is a Life Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects, a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Churchill Fellow.
