Join us to uncover the fascinating world of art conservation with Larry Keith, Head of Conservation at the National Gallery. Larry will share the story behind one of the Ferens Art Gallery’s most significant treasures: Christ between Saints Paul and Peter (c.1320), a rare and exquisite early Renaissance panel by Sienese master Pietro Lorenzetti. This remarkable painting — the oldest work in the Ferens permanent collection — was acquired in 2013 and revealed to the public after conservation in 2017, during Hull’s year as UK City of Culture.
Larry will explain how the conservation treatment unfolded alongside wider research, revealing new insights into Lorenzetti’s techniques and shedding light on the artist’s distinctive approach to panel painting.
