<> <> <> Why the location change to Piedmont Ridge Trail: <> <> <>
~ There are some issues with the Scyene Overlook Trail that make it best to avoid at present.
~ Trout lily flowering has been a bit off this year and the Piedmont Ridge Trail patches are more dependable.
~ The tree selection on the Piedmont Ridge Trail is more varied for winter tree ID.
The American Trout Lily, Erythronium americanum, is known as the harbinger of spring. It’s tiny, low-growing, downward-facing blooms are an important first nectar source for bees.
Between expositions by Bob, Amy will relay the Native American and pioneer history of Piedmont Ridge.
OPTIONAL ADDITIONAL HIKE AFTERWARD:
Follow Bob and Amy in your cars a few blocks north to 2525 N Jim Miller at the baseball parking lot. We will explore one section of the NEW trail created by Greenspace Dallas and funded by The Loop Dallas.
This section of the trail connects the Renda Meadow Loop to Oak Creek and, once the creek bridge is built, goes on to the Piedmont Ridge Trail. It is wide and has some lovely curves and mini-hills.
This section is part of a trail that will ultimately go from the Lawnview DART Station on Scyele to the DART Station at Lake June near US 175. Exciting! More news in another newsletter.
~
Dogs are welcome, but you must maintain leashed control of your dog at all times. Trout lilies are delicate and can be crushed by dogs. Please no unleashed dogs on this walk. It is against park regulations and detrimental to wildlife.
~
A $5 and up donation appreciated and will go toward trail signage. Please pay in advance by Venmo (@D-Smith-35) or Zelle (2147972475).
