Join Farmer Kelly for a fun, hands-on pickling adventure! In this interactive workshop, kids will discover how simple ingredients—fresh cucumbers, garlic, dill, and a few pantry staples—can be transformed into delicious, crunchy pickles they can take home and enjoy.Led by Kelly Caisse, a first-generation farm and food-business owner with over 20 years of experience, kids will learn where pickles really come from—starting in the garden. Kelly and her family run KDCROP FARMS in Chaplin, CT, where they grow produce and turn it into shelf-stable jarred foods inspired by recipes from her grandmother, Helen Keim Zanger.
During the workshop, kids will learn about the vegetables and herbs used in pickling, basic food safety, and the ingredients that create that classic pickle flavor. Each child will safely prepare their own jar using kid-friendly tools, cutting cucumbers, and adding fresh ingredients before the pickles are processed in a traditional water bath.
While the jars are finishing, kids will taste a variety of pickles and explore different flavors. They’ll leave with their own jar of pickles and the excitement and confidence to try making them again at home!
Registration required. Class size limited to 15 students (ages 6 - 10) + adult helpers.
