Physical Theatre workshop with Alaa ShehadaThis workshop, designed for actors , performers or students to enhance their physical presence, movement, and expression on stage. The focus is on developing an actor's awareness of their body, improving posture, flexibility, coordination, and the ability to convey emotions and characters through physicality. And on connecting deeply on the dialogue between body and imaginations. This workshop can be valuable for actors looking to expand their range and expressiveness on stage and getting closer to their imaginations.The workshop will be open to up to 20 participants. Because of limited space, we will also be offering space for people to observe the workshop. Please register accordingly as either a participant or an observer.This workshop is being offered as a fundraiser for the Freedom Theatre. Tickets are sliding scale in an effort to make the workshop as accessible as possible. Please consider what you are able to give in support of The Freedom Theatre as you register for this event.

About Alaa Shehada:Alaa Shehada is a theatre maker, educated at The Freedom Theatre Acting School in Jenin Refugee Camp, Palestine. He specializes in physical comedy, and stand- up comedy, and is co-founder of The Palestine Comedy Club. He is a doctor clown in Palestinian hospitals with Red Noses International, as well as being a member of Troupe Courage in Amsterdam as a mask actor. Alaa has performed in the USA, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and the UK. He’s worked with the directors Amir Nizar Zubi, Di Trevis and Katrien Van Beurden. He has performed at Theatre Royal Stratford in London, LaMaMa theatre New York, The Malthouse, Melbourne, and The Carthage Festival in Tunisia The John F. Kennedy Center in Washington DC, The Kimmel Centre in Philadelphia, Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, and Public Theater in NYC. Shehada is a Clown with Red Noses International in the West Bank and leads theatre workshops for women and children in Palestine.Shehada received a Jury Award at the International Festival of Liberal Theatre in Jordan, Best Show at the Palestinian National Theatre Festival 2018, and Best Script Co Writer 2019 for “London Jenin”.

About The Freedom Theatre:

The Freedom Theatre is a theatre and cultural centre in Jenin refugee camp, occupied Palestine. We stage professional theatre productions, hold theatre workshops in the refugee camp, Jenin town and villages, offer training in acting, pedagogy and photography, and publish books, exhibitions and short films.

Since we opened our doors in 2006, we have made theatre and visual art available to every young person in Jenin refugee camp. Our work has made Jenin refugee camp known in Palestine and internationally for innovative, thought-provoking theatre and media productions. We have created a generation of artists and leaders, who one day will be at the forefront of the Palestinian liberation movement.
