About this Event
Join Pompey Darkroom for a relaxed, beginner-friendly introduction to shooting and developing 35mm film. This session combines a guided photowalk with hands-on darkroom processing, focusing on experimentation, curiosity, and learning through doing.
Led by facilitator and photographer Thomas Betts, the workshop will start with a short introduction to 35mm film, including how it differs from digital and how to load a camera. You’ll then head out on a relaxed photowalk, with optional prompts and a flexible route shaped by the group.
After the walk, you’ll work in small groups to:
- Develop your black & white film in the darkroom
- Learn the chemical process, timing, and safe handling
- Reflect on your images and prepare for printing in a future session
The session ends with a group discussion and recap.
Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable walking shoes as part of this workshop will take place outdoors.
This workshop is for adults 18+ and there are very limited spaces.
Please note that this workshop is delivered in two parts. Attending both workshops is optional although advised for continuity. The second workshop will take place on Saturday 27 June and can be booked here
