Join our upcoming photography workshops, starting with an exploration of experimental techniques to embrace spontaneity and challenge conventional photography. Another workshop will focus on the photographer-model dynamic, including practical exercises in self-portraiture and model direction. Finally, learn how to create stunning photos using basic household items and effective post-production techniques, transforming images with tools like Capture One and iPhone editors.

● 18th July 2024 – Experimental Photography: Art of Letting Go

Unleash your creativity and explore the limitless possibilities of photography at the first of our workshops Led by the talented Kristina Balevska, a visionary Ravensbourne student known for her innovative approach to photography.

This hands-on workshop is designed for both budding photographers and seasoned artists eager to break free from traditional boundaries. Kristina will guide you through a series of experimental techniques that challenge conventional photography, encouraging you to embrace spontaneity and discover the beauty in unpredictability.

● 17th August 2024 – Other side of the lens: Model Direction

This workshop will explore the relationship between a photographer and model on set and how to effectively direct the model. This workshop will be done with myself and a friend who will be helping me demonstrate this. A talk and task on self portraiture will be included in this session as well as an opportunity for participants to try and direct each other to create a successful portrait.

● 14th September 2024 – Photography on a budget: Equipment & Post Production

This workshop will explore the accessibility of photography to people who don't necessarily have the budget to spend on expensive equipment and how to improvise with basic items that can be found around the house. A list of equipment will be shared with the team as well as exploring how post production can have a big effect on the outcome of a photograph. This will be demonstrated on Capture One (exploring colour curves and grading in particular), Camera Raw (this is available to Photoshop users) and iPhone photo editor. Participants will then be encouraged to edit an image they have taken in 3 different ways to create 3 moods for the same photo demonstrating the power of post production. This will be based only in the studio.

Participants must bring their own cameras and/or smartphones.

About Kristina

Kristina graduated from Ravensbourne 2023. She applied for the Montcalm Photographer in Residence during her final year and will take up her residency from July to September. She discovered her love of photography in her teens and has a passion for producing ethereal, Renaissance-inspired pieces that play on an underwater theme. As part of her residency, and in addition to the three workshops she has conceived and developed, she plans to use Montcalm East’s extensive spa facilities and swimming pool to continue to create underwater images.
