About this Event
Event theme:
For April, we’re looking at zines and lo-fi artist books as spaces for experimentation, immediacy, and subculture. Working outside traditional publishing structures, these works embrace DIY materials, Xerox copies, and one-off editions where urgency often matters more than polish.
We’ll consider what kinds of images and themes tend to live in zine form versus traditional hardbound photo books, and why. What does self-publishing allow that established presses might not? And how do zines operate not just as objects, but as a cultural movement rooted in access, circulation, and community?
Please take note of our event rules:
- If you sign up and need to cancel, please do so at least 24 hours in advance.
- Jump in and share your thoughts - this event is all about participation, it's not a lecture. We're here for open discussion so expect to get involved.
- This is a no-promo zone. We want a safe space for artists, creators and photo book lovers to connect, so please refrain from pitching or promoting your own work. Feel free to share personal insights respectfully, but keep the focus on discussion, not self-promotion.
- Bringing a book is encouraged but not required. We will be discussing books and there are books available at Bildband if you would like to use one for our chat. Additionally, feel free to share a book you might have found online if you don't have a physical copy.
