Photo 102: Light, Focus & Color

Instructor: Sara Leikin

Photo 102 is the second class in our three-part photography series and is designed for photographers who are ready to move beyond the basics. If you’ve taken Photo 101 or already have a working understanding of your camera, this class will help you deepen your technical skills while sharpening your creative eye.

Led by photographer and educator Dr. Sara Leikin, this session focuses on how light, focus, and color work together to shape a compelling image. Sara brings a thoughtful, approachable teaching style rooted in her background in education, with an emphasis on understanding why your camera behaves the way it does rather than just which buttons to press.

In this class, we’ll cover:

  • A brief recap of key concepts from Photo 101
  • Camera modes and when to use them with confidence
  • The exposure triangle in real-world shooting scenarios
  • Focus modes and techniques for consistently sharp images
  • Working with natural and artificial light
  • An introduction to color theory and white balance
  • Composition tips that go beyond the basics

About the Instructor
Dr. Sara Leikin is a photographer, educator, and lifelong storyteller who fell in love with photography as a way to slow down and really see the world. She’s especially drawn to travel photography, night-scapes, and the small details that tell a bigger story. With a background in education, Sara loves helping photographers at all levels build confidence, understand the why behind their camera settings, and discover their own visual voice.
