About this Event

Join Us for The Philosopher's Yard Meetup: Exploring "Identity in Modern Britain - Navigating Difference"

In this session, we will turn our attention to Identity and Difference: Can we celebrate difference without deepening division? Is national identity something inherited, chosen, or constantly reinvented? What does it mean to belong in a multicultural society?

This meetup will feature a talk from Ranjit Sondhi, Vice Chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality and member of numerous national bodies tackling social justice. A lifelong advocate for social change, Ranjit has spent decades shaping policy and public life. After arriving in the UK on a scholarship, he set aside a career in Theoretical Physics to focus on grassroots activism, founding the Asian Resource Centre in Handsworth in 1976, before lecturing on the topic at the University of Birmingham for 20 years. Ranjit will talk about the complex construction of ethnic identity in 21st-century Britain.

As always, The Philosopher’s Yard provides a welcoming space for thoughtful dialogue and reflection. Whether you are well-versed in philosophy or simply curious, this is an opportunity to share perspectives and engage with others in a friendly, open environment.

The event will take place at BRIG Café at The Warehouse, located in Birmingham city centre.

Tickets are £5, with a buy one, get one free offer if you're attending with a friend. As a registered charity, all ticket revenue supports Philosophers' Yard events and activities.
