Over four years since the sold-out preview performances at Circus City in 2021, we’re thrilled to be returning to Bristol with the fully developed rendition of Period Drama. As Circomedia graduate, I'm beyond excited to be performing at St Paul's Church. To return with my first full-length show feels so incredibly special, a true honour and a deeply meaningful full-circle moment.
Period Drama by Olga Kaleta (with integrated BSL by Sherrie Eugene Hart) is a surreal, episodic dark comedy about mental health, identity & recovery that mixes autobiographical storytelling with circus & bold physicality. Exploring personal experiences of chronic anxiety in a world where fear is starting to look like common sense, Period Drama offers a deep dive into the question of wellness through a feminist lens, via slasher flicks, bloody knickers & the existential dilemmas of insects. Combining dark humour & physical comedy, this poignant, beautiful & laugh-out-loud performance challenges ideas of who we are & what we are meant to become.
Directed by Laura Murphy & Nicole A'Court-Stuart and Produced by Thea Woodrow.
Age: 16+ Frank discussion of sexuality and mental health, strong language.
Period Drama is a Circus City commission for Circus City's Respond Programme and has been created with support from Arts Council England and Arts Council of Wales, and those who play the National Lottery.
