'Percussive Maintenance' is an initiative by drummer Simon Popp aimed at forming new ties through improvisation. At Import Export Munich, Simon invites fellow artists to engage in an open-format collaboration. For each evening, new formations are created, playing exclusively improvised music, making each concert a truly unique experience. For this special event, Simon will be joined by the innovative and boundary-pushing producer and electronic artist Stenny.

Stenny
Born and raised in the industrial suburbs of Turin, Stenny earned recognition in the last decade as both an accomplished producer and DJ. Exploring club culture and sound art, his journey has been one of constant research and reinvention, avoiding trends and the demands of contemporary music consumption while embracing the slower and more deliberate nature of his craft.
Stenny’s work traverses the full electronic music landscape. Whether embracing new narrative structures and compositional experiments or consolidating the immediacy of a dancefloor-oriented project, each release marks a point of departure. Familiar yet constantly shifting, his sonic language remains identifiable within the experimental techno spectrum but expands beyond genre boundaries.
Currently based in Munich, Stenny is an Ilian Tape affiliate and a Blitz Club resident. His artistic expression consists mostly of DJ sets and live performances. Fearless in his approach, he ventures through his broad range of musical influences with spontaneity and control, committed to creating an ever-unique and immersive experience.
Simon Popp
Munich-based drummer and composer Simon Popp navigates polyrhythmic structures with a keen sense of timing and atmosphere. He contrasts earthy and airy sounds, blurs the boundaries between the electronic and acoustic worlds, and makes a powerful statement about what contemporary percussion music can be.
Popp studied jazz drumming in Munich and explores the intersections of jazz, ambient, and electronic music through his solo work and projects such as Fazer, 9ms, Poeji, and Polygonia & Simon Popp. His solo albums Laya, Devi, and Blizz have received international acclaim, particularly within the vinyl community. As The Line Of Best Fit praised: „this is music you can get totally lost in, where the lines between organic and electric are blurred so as to be indistinguishable.“ In addition to recognition from magazines like Clash, Juno, and Ransom Note, Bleep compared his work to that of experimental pioneers Philip Glass and Steve Reich.

Die Konzertreihe 'Percussive Maintenance' wurde Anfang 2022 von dem Schlagzeuger Simon Popp ins Leben gerufen. Ziel ist es, durch Improvisation neue musikalische Begegnungen zu ermöglichen. Im Import Export werden Musiker:innen eingeladen, in offenen Formaten zusammenzuspielen. Für jeden Abend werden neue Formationen geschaffen, die ausschließlich improvisierte Musik spielen, wodurch jedes Konzert buchstäblich ein einmaliges Erlebnis ist.
Für diese besondere Ausgabe hat Simon den elektronischen Künstler und Producer Stenny eingeladen.
Geboren und aufgewachsen in den industriellen Vororten von Turin, hat Stenny sich in den letzten zehn Jahren als Produzent und DJ einen Namen gemacht. Seine musikalische Reise ist geprägt von konstanter Recherche und ständiger Neuerfindung: Trends und die schnellen Anforderungen moderner Musiklandschaften lässt er bewusst hinter sich, um sich der langsamen, sorgfältigen Arbeit an seiner Klangsprache zu widmen.
Sein Werk umfasst die gesamte Bandbreite elektronischer Musik. Ob er neue Ausdrucksformen und kompositorische Experimente ausprobiert oder die unmittelbare Wirkung eines tanzflächenorientierten Projekts in den Vordergrund stellt – jede Veröffentlichung markiert für ihn einen Neuanfang. Bekannt und doch wandelbar, ist seine Klangsprache klar im experimentellen Techno verankert, überschreitet aber gleichzeitig genretypische Grenzen.
Mittlerweile lebt Stenny in München, veröffentlicht regelmäßig bei dem Label Ilian Tape und ist Resident im Blitz Club. Sein künstlerischer Ausdruck findet vor allem in DJ-Sets und Live-Performances statt. Mutig in seiner Herangehensweise, bewegt er sich spontan und zugleich kontrolliert durch ein breites Spektrum musikalischer Einflüsse und schafft einzigartige Erlebnisse bei jedem Auftritt.
Der in München lebende Schlagzeuger und Komponist Simon Popp schlägt sich mit feinem Gespür für Timing und Stimmung durch polyrhythmische Strukturen. Er kontrastiert erdige und luftige Klänge, verwischt die Grenzen zwischen der elektronischen und akustischen Welt und setzt ein kraftvolles Statement dafür, was zeitgenössische Schlagzeugmusik sein kann. Popp studierte Jazzschlagzeug in München und bewegt sich mit seiner Soloarbeit und Projekten wie ‚Fazer‘, ‚9ms‘, ‚Poeji‘ und ‚Polygonia & Popp‘ an den Schnittstellen von Jazz, Ambient und elektronischer Musik. Seine Solo-Alben ‚Laya‘, ‚Devi‘ und ‚Blizz‘ fanden international, besonders in der Vinyl-Szene, großen Anklang.
