Do you fancy a challenge?? This is a slightly risky 10 mile run all along the beach from Pendine to Tenby Sailing Club. We will set off from the top of the large slipway onto the beach at Pendine (look out for the Welsh Flag). We will have a warm up at 1200 followed by a run brief at 1210, then we'll all set off together at 1215.The risk is making sure you can run to Tenby without getting cut off by the tide. Low tide is 0.5m at 1340. I reckon if you can run a 12 minute mile, you should be fine.
I suggest you partner up with someone of similar ability / risk taking and take the following
1 Fully charged mobile phone
2 Gloves (for scrambling on rocks)
3 Water
The run will look a little like this.
1215 Set off on an outgoing tide
Gilman Point - More than likely up to your knees in the sea.
Ragwen Point - Some rock hopping.
Telpyn Point - Some rock hopping
Telpyn Point to Monkstone Point - mostly running on sand with the occasional rock hopping
Monkstone Point - Some rock hopping. This year, there is a good possibility of going all the way around the point, rather than the usual through route (I'll leave that to your personal judgement)
If you are not at the south side of Monkstone Beach by 1410, you will definitely get wet going around to Waterwynch.
Monkstone to Tenby - depending on when you get to this point, there will be rock hopping at the very least and more than likely rock scrambling (hence the gloves)
95 brave souls completed the event last year.
This is a FREE event, but if you want to donate to a charity, then there will be a collection box for the RNLI. Last year we raised £240 for them.
DISCLAIMER This run is to give yourself a challenge with friends, but you need to know that the incoming tide can be dangerous and can cut you off quite easily especially from Monkstone Beach to Tenby. You are responsible for yourself, there aren't any marshals. I suggest you run with someone who knows the area.
However, if you accept the risk, then this should be a fun adventure.
