About this Event
Please join PEN Canada at our annual awards ceremony on Friday November 28 in Toronto, celebrating a year of advocacy, literature and free expression.
ABOUT THE EVENING
Ira Wells will emcee the evening, with readings readings from members of the PEN community. Most importantly, we gather to celebrate the recipients of these three prizes:
- RBC/PEN Canada New Voices Award for an exceptional, unpublished Canadian writer. The award is funded by the RBC Emerging Artists Program, which supports the arts and the role they play in building vibrant communities and strong economies.
- Ken Filkow Prize for a Canadian individual or organization that has fought courageously for freedom of expression in Canada, at the expense of their own safety or reputation.
- Marie-Ange Garrigue Prize for a Canadian individual or organization that has provided significant help to a writer or journalist outside Canada who has faced threats, violence, harassment, or imprisonment for reporting or commenting on issues of public interest.
Light refreshments will be available from 6:00-6:30 p.m., before the show starts.
This event is FREE and open to the public. RSVP is required.
