Peggy Konert and LaDeana Mullinix are writers, friends, and master gardeners who are sharing space for a reading of their two new books, THE HOLY GHOST AND A SHINE OF COAL, a novel, and SMALL COMFORTS, a collection of poetry. Come join us on Thursday, April 9, at 6:30 p.m. at Pearl's Books for this special event. 📖🎤_____________
ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
Peggy Konert was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She grew up with close to 100 first cousins and numerous aunts and uncles. Her parent’s families were raised in the small German-Catholic communities of Paris and Scranton in the Arkansas River Valley, which was once comprised of mostly farmers and coal miners. She credits the story of June Ellen to growing up with these strong women and men telling their stories, especially her grandfather’s story, a coal miner who died from Black Lung disease. “The Holy Ghost and A Shine Of Coal”, starring June Ellen, is her debut novel, historical fiction. Her novel was the First Pages Contest Winner awarded by the Arkansas SCBWI in 2019.
LaDeana Mullinix is a retired occupational therapist, a native Kansan now living in Northwest Arkansas. She has had poems/essays published in a Quaker publication Friends Journal, and in Midwest Quarterly, Midwest Review, in Slant, and in Medicine and Meaning, the literary journal of the University of Arkansas Medical Center, and has a chapbook Small Comforts.
