A hands-on career & skills experience at Seattle Humane.PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Paws, Paths, and Possibilities is a multisensory, skills-focused workshop led by trained Seattle Humane staff. Explorers will learn about animal care and veterinary careers in a safe and accessible location. Activities focus on tactile learning, guided interaction with animals, career exploration, and real-world use of orientation and mobility (O&M), and self-advocacy skills.
Tour highlights
Explorer families will:
🐾 Learn about the Seattle Humane mission and different animal focused jobs.
🐾 Enjoy a safe, guided interaction with a shelter animal (species vary).
🐾 Explore a non-occupied housing space and learn about pet kennel design, feeding, and daily care tasks.
🐾 Visit a veterinary clinic and handle tactile-safe tools while learning about medical care at a shelter.
Workshop goals
Explorers will learn about careers in animal welfare and gain practical experience and build advocacy, self-determination, and O&M skills. They will:
🐾 Identify how to advocate for animal well-being in their communities and practice self-advocacy to control their needs during event activities.
🐾 Make their own choices regarding their level of participation in animal encounters and hands-on activities.
🐾 Learn about careers in animal welfare.
🐾 Practice safe and clean ways to interact with animals and handle common tools used in animal care and veterinary settings.

DSB Explorers ages 8 – 13.
COST
Free for Explorers and a parent/guardian.
Light refreshments will be served.
