Paul Hecht's Pyrography II Record Release Show

Pyrography began as a pianist Paul Hecht's trio/quartet project in 2024, documenting original compositions that explore the intersection of written form and spontaneous expression. After an initial record release, the project expanded to a quintet in 2025. This show celebrates the release of a new recording, Pyrography II, on May 29th.
The quintet includes some of the most in-demand improvising musicians in Chicago, with James Davis on trumpet, Michael Hudson-Casanova on alto sax, Ben Dillinger on bass, and Gustavo Cortiñas on drums.
Critics have called Hecht's compositions "quietly ambitious," "equally comfortable with structured complexity and carefree exploration," and "endlessly rewarding."
