The community is warmly invited to gather for “Pastries with Pauli”, a morning of conversation, reflection, and inspiration celebrating the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray—civil rights icon, lawyer, activist, poet, and the first Black woman ordained as an Episcopal priest.Hosted at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, the symposium begins at 9:30 AM with coffee, pastries, and fellowship, followed by a one-hour program honoring Murray’s profound impact on law, faith, and social justice.
The program will feature:
Fr. Christopher Slane – An overview of Pauli Murray’s life and pioneering work.
David Boyles – Chair of the Cincinnati Bar Association’s LGBTQ+ Interest Group, reflecting on Murray’s legal legacy.
Rev. Lesley Jones and Rev. Derek Terry – Personal insights on Pauli Murray from Black, queer, and ministerial perspectives
A sneak peek performance by Sharisse Vernelle Santos, soloist featured in the afternoon concert.
“Pastries with Pauli” precedes the 4:00PM afternoon performance of "Rebel With a Cause: Sincerely Yours, Pauli Murray," presented by the World House Choir. Concert will be at the House of Joy, 3220 Central Parkway in Cincinnati. Together, these events invite the community to honor Pauli Murray’s enduring call for justice and equality.
