Belqis Youssofzay joins Maryam Gusheh for an intimate conversation within the exhibition, Parts of Practice.Belqis Youssofzay is director of Sydney-based architecture practice Youssofzay Hart. Founded in 2017, the practice is "guided by an interest in civic generosity, radical accessibility and a sustainable future." An articulate advocate for equity, Belqis has spoken at a number of Parlour's online events. We are thrilled to welcome her for an in-person conversation with our own Maryam Gusheh.Belqis and Maryam bring overlapping interests and commitments realised across quite different career trajectories. We look forward to a convivial conversation about developing modes of practice as a means to make space for oneself and others, about the importance of generosity to advancing equity and accessibility, about the intersections between architecture and exhibition-making, and much more.As with all Parlour events, this is also an opportunity for connection and engagement between and among attendees – over refreshments and within the exhibition.
Belqis Youssofzay is the director of Sydney-based architecture practice Youssofzay Hart.
The practice works across a spectrum of project typologies guided by an interest in civic generosity, radical accessibility and a sustainable future. The practice began in 2017 with a win for the Missing Middle design competition initiated by Government Architect NSW and the Department of Planning. Subsequently, the practice has approached housing through the lens of density, migration, equity and resource use.
In its 8 years the practice has also built a diverse portfolio of public projects for renowned cultural institutions within Australia and globally. They are on the design team for the Powerhouse Ultimo Renewal, Blacktown Arts and Cultural Centre and have delivered two large-scale installations for M+ in Hong Kong.
Belqis is the recipient of the Byera Hadley Traveling Scholarship. She is also a passionate teacher and a champion for equality, diversity and inclusivity in architecture.
