A psychology-led peaceful day retreat for parents and carers of children and adult children with learning disabilities and/or autism.
About this Event

Please note this event is split over 2 days, you must be able to attend both these half day sessions.

Thursday 5th and Thursday 12th March, 9:30am for a 10am start – 2pm

Are you a parent or carer in a supporting role for a person with learning disabilities and/or neurodivergence?

Do you want to unwind and connect with other parent/carers who truly get it?

Join us for a relaxed, in-person retreat to recharge and explore parenting in an ableist society. We will bring together psychological practices and lived experiences to focus on acceptance and self-compassion in a welcoming environment.

There is a suggested donation of £15, but if money is a barrier, please do get in touch with us.

This is an opportunity to explore parenting in an ableist society, and what it means to

build emotionally secure, connected relationships with our children by accepting and

valuing them for who they are. It will be a chance to reconnect with yourself and your

inner wisdom and be together in community, at St Werbergh’s City Farm. Our focus

is on valuing our children for who they are and not who they are not or who they

‘should’ be, and resisting invitations to be ‘normal’. This is a retreat that brings

together psychological practice and lived experience. It will have a focus on going

deeper into our own needs to develop self-compassion practices. There will be

invitations to join yoga sessions as part of this, or if you prefer you can relax or

wander around the city farm. Lunch will be provided.

Dr Sarah Brown, DClinPsych, is a Community and Clinical Psychologist registered

with the HCPC. She works independently with children and families in South Wales

and provides psychological consultation, training and support to organisations. She

contributes to changing the narrative around mental health towards a holistic, social

justice and rights based approach.

Katarina Luce is a Mum of 3 boys. She originally co-founded SENDaWelcome, a CiC

based in Bristol, which promotes inclusion of people with learning disabilities in her

community.
