Join Wild South London and Grove Park Community Group for our first joint event: an afternoon all about parakeets! These bright green, sometimes controversial, birds are a South London staple now, so why not get to know them a little better and enjoy the spectacle of hundreds of them coming into roost?
Meet your hosts in the Main Hall (What3Words ///extend.bunks.slows)of the Ringway Centre, home of Grove Park Community Group, for a 4pm start where we'll introduce ourselves and our groups, before setting out through the Ringway gardens and out into Grove Park Nature Reserve. We'll wander throught the reserve and, as dusk begins to fall, experience the amazing display that the parakeets put on as they return to Hither Green Cemetery for the night. Once they've settled, we'll head back to the hall for a warming cuppa, a chance to chat and discuss what we've seen, and some fun little parakeet-based activities!
About us
Wild South London is a community group which aims to raise awareness of local biodiversity and promote conservation and appreciation of nature. Through walks, talks and hands-on workshops, the group will educate and inspire local people on topics such as sustainable foraging and identification of plants, animals and fungi - all while promoting the positive health and wellbeing impacts of engaging with nature.
Grove Park Community Group (GPCG) have been at the heart of Grove Park’s community for over 50 years. GPCG manage The Ringway Centre to promote and provide facilities and activities, for the benefit of residents.
