Opera has always sought to illuminate the human experience through music, storytelling, and emotion—but whose stories have traditionally been at the center and how are Cincinnati Opera artists expanding that lens?Join Cincinnati Opera and Cincinnati Opera Young Professionals (COYP) for Beyond Archetypes, a candid conversation exploring representation in opera, evolving perspectives in storytelling, and the creatives helping shape a broader, richer future for this art form.
Through the experiences of our host, baritone Eric Shane Heatley, director of SALOME José María Condemi, tenor Julius Ahn from the cast of SALOME, and poet/librettist of LALOVAVI, Tifara Brown, this panel will examine how opera can move beyond archetypes to tell fuller, more authentic human stories onstage, and how Cincinnati Opera is playing a role in this movement.
This conversation invites audiences to consider not only the future of opera, but the power of seeing ourselves and one another more completely through art.
