About this Event
Cyanotype and Bleach Art
In this workshop we will have 2 projects.
Cyanotype - What is cyanotype? A chemical mixture that creates a reverse shadow affect on the surface using UV light.
We will be using a mixture of ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide t coat the surface. Then placing objects and like feathers or foliage on the item, The exposed areas turn a deep blue, while the covered areas remain white. The final result is a beautiful indigo blue image.
Bleach Art - We will be applying bleach to colored fabrics to remove the dye and create striking, reverse-color artwork.
BYO T-shirt, hat or, bag. 100% cotton or high-cotton blend dark clothing is recommended. (cotton responds best to bleach; too much polyester can result in fabric damage). We will be experimenting on scrap fabric. Chose your design from stencils or cutouts, silhouettes work best. Feel free to bring your own stencil or image.
We will be using chemicals to create the images. Precautions..
- Gloves and aprons will be available, but stuff happens, so chose your clothes wisely.
- If you are sensitive to smells, you may want to consider a mask.
- This class is meant for play and exploration. Perfection is unrealistic.
