About this Event

This will be a packed 2 hour workshop of creative poetry prompts themed around romance, love and relationships, using Ella Frears and Jessica Todd’s poetry card game; (Rough Trade Books, 2025). There’ll also be opportunities to share your poems (but only if you want to) - as well as collaboratively write together.

You do not need to be a poet to join this workshop! is for everybody.

Poetry Fruit Machine is a deck of 54 illustrated prompt cards, featuring classic fruit machine symbols – but with a poetic twist. Think mysterious imagery, inspiring instructions, and perverse restrictions. These elements combine in thousands of possible combinations, each one designed to spark something unexpected.

Ella Frears is a poet based in London. Her books Shine, Darling (Offord Road Books, 2020) and Goodlord: An Email (Rough Trade Books, 2024) have been shortlisted for The Forward Prize the T.S. Eliot Prize, and a Sky Arts Award. She has taught creative writing for organisations such as the Guardian Masterclasses, The Arvon Foundation, City Lit, Goldsmiths University, The Poetry Society, Fabe Academy, and as an RLF at the Courtauld Institute of Art.

Page of Wands is a writers’ collective running weekly workshops and events in south-east London. Writers of all words share poetry, stories and works in progress. We aim to create spaces where people feel comfortable playing with language, whether they write regularly, or are trying something new. We publish an annual anthology zine, as well as platforming collections published by writers from within the group.
