Join PAC LA for an artist led discussion of "Water & Power", followed by a bike tour to different sites throughout the city.
About this Event

Join photographer Brandon Tauszik and Hunter Baoengstrum for a discussion of the Water and Power exhibition currently on view at the PAC LA Gallery followed by a bike tour visiting various LADWP owned and operated or affiliated facilitiesin the vicinity of the PAC LA Gallery.  Tauszik and Baoengrtrum will discuss the city's relationship with water and it's outsized impact on the history of Los Angeles development. They will also discuss water’s relationship with electrical power generation and distribution in the city. 
 
During the bike tour Baoengstrum  will discuss LADWP’s institutional history and a basic overview of its operating structure with a focus on its unique independence as aproprietary department under the city charter and extensive physical footprintin the city. These discussions at the selected facilities will deepenattendees’ appreciation for and understanding of LA’s hydroelectric historiesand Tauszik's exhibition.
 
Brandon Tauszik is a photographer and filmmaker based in Los Angeles. Tauszik’s work examines contemporary American social and environmental issues, frequently taking form as immersive, multimedia projects. His work has been praised by outlets like The Washington Post, Le Monde, the British Journal of Photography, and more. Previous photo book publications by Tauszik include Water & Power (2024), Fifteen Vaults (2023), and Pale Blue Dress (2020). He is the recipient of grants from California Humanities and the Berkeley Film Foundation to support his film Living Harriet Tubman (2026), as well as the Pulitzer Center to support his project Facing Life (2022). Tauszik recently completed a two-year fellowship with the Starling Lab at Stanford University, where he developed a low-cost way for journalists to preserve their work online.  
 
Hunter Baoengstrum lives and works car-free in Los Angeles as an artist,urban planner, and cyclist. He organizes critical group bike rides and walksthat investigate different systems within urban planning as the founder andgeneral manager of the City of Los Angeles Bureau of InfrastructureInspections, and enjoys painting crosswalks in his free time. He has producedtours and works in collaboration with other artists for public programminghosted by Human Resources, François Ghebaly, Los Angeles Nomadic Division,Plot, and Clockshop.
