The OYOUth Summer Music Camp brings young people ages 10–19 together in San Marcos to make music, find their voices, and feel like they belong. Designed to welcome youth of all abilities and backgrounds, the camp creates a safe, supportive space where every participant is seen, valued, and encouraged to explore who they are through music.

Over the course of the music camp, students write songs, learn instruments, sing, and collaborate with one another. Along the way, they build more than musical skills. They gain confidence. They learn how to listen, work as a team, and take creative risks. Students are introduced to a wide range of musical styles and traditions, while also being encouraged to draw from their own stories, cultures, and lived experiences. By learning side by side with peers of different abilities and perspectives, participants develop empathy, respect, and a genuine sense of community.

The summer music camp concludes with a public performance at the Wildflower Country Event Center, where students share the original songs and collaborations they’ve created together. This celebration isn’t just a concert — it’s a powerful moment of pride, visibility, and affirmation for the students and their families, and a reminder of what inclusive arts education can look like when everyone is invited to participate.

The need for this program is real and growing. In 2025, OYOU offered this music camp, with 75% able to attend free of charge thanks to donor support. Affordable music camps are scarce in San Marcos — or frankly anywhere, and programs intentionally designed to include youth of all abilities are even rarer. By removing financial barriers and adapting instruction to meet each child where they are, OYOU ensures that access to music education isn’t limited by income, ability, or circumstance.

The impact of the OYOUth Summer Music Camp is felt both immediately and long after the final note is played. Participants leave with stronger musical skills, increased confidence, and meaningful friendships. Families report positive changes in self-expression and engagement, and many students continue making music well beyond the camp experience. With the support of sponsors, this program continues to nurture creativity, connection, and belonging — one song, and one young person, at a time.
