Taking the next step into overnight hiking is an exciting and rewarding experience, and being well-prepared will ensure you have an unforgettable adventure! This is your chance to embrace the challenge with our experienced Off The Beaten Track WA Guides, who will support you every step of the way, sharing their knowledge and answering any questions you may have. Your journey begins at the Trails Hub Cafe, where we’ll set off on a scenic 3 km grade 2 hike along the famous Bibbulmun Track, winding through picturesque jarrah and marri forest to Hewett’s Hill Campsite.
Here, we’ll begin our hands-on Overnight Hiking Workshop teaching you all the basics to Overnight Hiking, including:
🧡Setting up your tent: How to choose a tent site and how to erect your tent.
🧡Sleep Systems: We’ll talk through and show you sleeping mats, sleeping bags, liners & pillows. What’s important, what to look out for and hacks for saving space and weight in your pack.
🧡Cooking System: We’ll look at various ways you can cook your meals out on the trails, and types of trail food. We’ll talk about train nutrition and the importance of nutrient rich food to sustain your hike.
🧡Campsite Etiquette: We’ll give you an orientation of a typical Bibbulmun Track Shelter, as well as talk through campsite etiquette and the do’s and don’ts of using these public spaces to ensure you and others have a great experience.
🧡Hygiene: How to keep clean and sanitary out on the trails.
🧡Planning your adventure: What resources are available to help you choose the right trail for you. Checking the weather, trail closures and emergency resources as well as other safety practices to ensure you have an enjoyable and safe overnight hike.
At the conclusion of our Overnight Hiking Workshop, those that have signed up to camp out with us overnight and put their learnings into practice will begin to set up their camp for an evening under the stars and those that have come along for the Workshop only will be Guided back to the Trails Hub Cafe to finish their day.
Our overnight hikers will enjoy dinner around the campfire soaking in its warmth and the peaceful atmosphere as we share stories before we climb into our tents for a night’s rest.
As day breaks, our overnight hikers will prepare for their walk out of camp by packing down their tent and sleep system, making and enjoying breakfast and getting their pack organised ready for their 3km wander back to the Camel Farm.
This short yet immersive overnight hike is the perfect introduction to multi-day trekking, giving you the skills and confidence to take on bigger adventures in the future.
