After-school care professionals play and important role in developing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning opportunities, increasing a youth’s natural interests, promoting learner-centered science, and integrating science. This interactive session uses a carousel of group-directed mini-centers that feature ways to create STEM-rich environments into their existing program.
Training Objectives:
1 .To appreciate and understand the importance of creating STEM-rich environments in afterschool settings.
2 . Understanding how to incorporate the six strands from the National Research Council’s Learning Science in Informal Environments: People, Places, and Pursuits in the creation of science-rich Environment
3 . Six mini-centers (Strands of Informal Science Learning Brainstorming Activities – Science Jeopardy® board game; Wonder Walls; Family Science Backpacks; Theme-Based Curriculum; Measuring Tool Kits
Each professional development session offered by The Children’s Cabinet utilizes a knowledge check to ensure that our participants understand our training objectives and our instructors are providing a comprehensive learning experience. You can expect to receive a three question quiz or test at the end of each training.
