About this Event
Join York Civic Trust and York’s Hidden History for this Our Place ‘walkshop’ exploring the history and heritage of southern Acomb. In this event, we’ll meet at Foxwood Community Centre for a short introduction, then go out on a 1-hour walk around Foxwood and Acomb Moor, highlighting some of the historic people and places.
We’ll search out the Great Knoll, hunt for foxes and beagles, and ponder whether Charles I rode across these fields, whilst keeping an eye out for Ice Age brickpits and takeaway volcanoes. We’ll then return to the community centre for further discussion, with participants invited to suggest Acomb locations that they’d like to see added to the Local Heritage List.
Route is step-free, but footpaths prone to get muddy, so recommend good walking footwear.
