About this Event
Join us for the second event of Fleet Street Quarter’s Climate Connectors Festival during London Climate Action Week 2026.
Fleet Street Quarter is a 43-hectare district at the western end of the City of London and a fast-growing centre for employment and economic development. As a central London Business Improvement District, it brings together business, finance and public sector partners to explore how sustainability and green finance can be delivered locally, at scale and under commercial scrutiny.
Now in its third year, the festival reflects a shift in both the conversation and how it is explored, creating space for fresh thinking, participation and collaboration. This event takes the conversation out of conference rooms and into the street, exploring what climate action really means when dealing with historic buildings, complex infrastructure and lived places.
Please arrive 10 minutes beforehand to allow for a prompt start.
Our Heritage Futures: The Walking Story of Fleet Street Quarter
Beginning at the historic Temple Church, the event opens with short provocations from heritage, engineering and city stakeholders, setting out the key challenges and opportunities facing historic urban environments today. Participants will hear directly from those responsible for managing and adapting these spaces, as they navigate how to modernise heritage assets while preserving their character and balancing conservation with long-term performance.
The event will then transition into an optional guided walk through the district - providing context, drawing links between sites, and framing the challenges that feed into the wider Climate Connectors programme.
Participants will visit a series of landmark sites, including:
- Temple Church
- Dr Johnson’s House
- St Bride’s Church
- St Andrew-by-the-Wardrobe
At each stop, speakers will explore the practical challenges of balancing conservation with modern performance, drawing on real examples and live constraints.
Discussion focus
The session will explore:
- Retrofitting historic buildings at pace and scale
- The trade-offs between embodied carbon and conservation
- Infrastructure challenges beneath heritage environments
- Funding, ownership and responsibility for resilience
