The late-afternoon organ recital series at Church of the Holy Spirit, Narbonne Avenue, Clapham SW4 9JU, is the gift that keeps giving. The next concert, which includes music by Mozart, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Messiaen and Copland, will be performed by the esteemed organist and choir trainer Timothy Byram-Wigfield. Organ Scholar at @christchurchoxford and Sub-Organist of @winchestercathedral, he became the youngest Cathedral Organist in the country on his appointment as Master of the Music at St Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh (@stmaryscathedin), at the age of 28. He was subsequently the first Director of Music at Jesus College, Cambridge, following which he was Director of Music at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle (@stgeorgeswindsor). In this capacity he directed the music for the Annual Service of the Order of the Garter and had the privilege of directing the music for the Marriage Blessing of the then HRH Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.
Outside cathedral cloisters he was Deputy Director of the Oxford Bach Choir (@OxfordBachChoir) for over 10 years, and previously, as Chorus Master of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra Chorus, worked with Sir Charles Mackerras in recordings and performances during the Edinburgh International Festival.
The recital will be followed by refreshments, and a sung evensong at 6.30pm. Entrance is free but donations will go towards maintenance of the fine Hunter organ at Church of the Holy Spirit.
