AN AFTERNOON OF FIRE, WIND & GRANDEUR
Orchestra Borealis
Sunday, April 26, 2026 · 3:00 PM
Get ready for a thrilling afternoon of orchestral fire and poetry. Orchestra Borealis brings together three landmark works that span the full emotional range of the classical tradition — from otherworldly Russian myth to Romantic triumph.
PROGRAMME
I. The Firebird Suite — Igor Stravinsky
II. Konzertstück for Wind Quintet and Orchestra — Julius Rietz
III. Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 — Johannes Brahms
Stravinsky's blazing fairy-tale opens the afternoon with spectacle and wit. Rietz's rarely performed gem puts the spotlight on our wind soloists in a sparkling showcase of chamber-meets-orchestra writing. Then Brahms' First Symphony — twenty years in the making — closes the concert with one of the most triumphant finales ever written. This is a programme for anyone who loves music that moves.
Approx. 2 hrs with intermission.
