About this Event
In medieval times, some communities would toast (Wassail) their apple trees each Winter, using music and song to wish them healthy growth in the coming season. We would like to bring this tradition back to create an opportunity for us to connect with the land and learn about how to nurture these young trees, so that they produce lots of apples in years to come!
We will meet at the Stables pub car park (G66 1RH) at 2pm and walk together along the track and across a field to the Easter Cadder orchard (5min). The walk is mostly flat, with a slight incline and is uneven at times, unsuitable for small wheels but ok for off-road type prams or wheelchairs. Sturdy footwear or wellies are recommended.
We will learn a simple tree song with Kirsty from Singing Mamas/Quavers Music, with hand percussion provided! Nature recovery officer Cara will tell us a bit about how to manage the orchard and show us how to mulch the trees using waste sheep’s wool.
**it is recommended to wear gloves that you don’t mind getting grubby for this task
We will have a warm drink of mulled apple juice for everyone afterwards, but as this is an outdoor activity, please dress for the weather and feel free to bring your own drinks and snacks (and take any rubbish home with you).
Note: Children should be supervised at all times in the orchard
